Two Become One
It was revealed that most of the work done to the penthouse was concentrated in the kitchen and dining area. The two spaces were combined so that the resultant space is a tidy, open kitchen. To keep the space pristine, everything in the kitchen is awash in white.
The homeowners do not cook much, so incorporating a dry kitchen equipped with the most basic cooking equipment meets their requirements perfectly. There is no proper dining area. But there’s the bar, which comes in handy when they have parties and other social gatherings. In addition, adjustable down lights have been installed at the bar to set the mood during such events.
Thankfully, light streams in generously from the floor-to-ceiling windows, and that’s what the couple wanted to capitalise on. As such, furnishings have been kept to a minimum. ID Emboss then stained the natural teakwood door frames, as well as the staircase, a dark walnut finish to further enhance the lived-in vibe of the home. The owners felt that the original natural wood colour had no impact, so they requested for a darker tone.
Pop art and old Shanghai posters share the space, dressing up bare walls, even those along the stairs, coming together to infuse a cheery personality to the home.
With backgrounds in the creative industry, the couple is blessed with an eye for aesthetics, particularly, the lady, a fashion designer whose expertise lies in coordinating fabrics and styles. Working closely with ID Emboss, they decided on a neutral palette as a foundation for the home, while adding vibrant pops of colour through posters, art pieces and soft furnishings as accents.
For the windows, the couple wanted blinds because it is easier to maintain, and it ties in nicely with the fuss-free nature of the home. This also puts the focus squarely on the details that make the home. Likewise, the bedrooms have been configured efficiently, with the beds tucked close to the expansive windows. This means that the bed in the master bedroom is right next to the bay window, which effectively eliminates the need for bedside tables, making it a fitting and convenient arrangement that allows more than enough room for the couple’s many collectibles and photographs.
