We all know that all relationships need working at. It is tough trying to maintain a long-term relationship as a normal, ordinary person. Imagine trying to do likewise under constant public scrutiny. Here’s my pick of two celebrity couples who, despite their odds, are making their relationships work.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne: “A Heavy Test of Mettle”

Love has certainly been no bed of roses for Heavy-metal singer Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. In 1989, the People Magazine featured an interview article on them aptly titled, “Life with Ozzy Osborne, Says His Wife, Sharon, Is a Heavy Test of Mettle”. In that article, Sharon shared how there were 5 engagement rings because the ring would be thrown out of the window every time Ozzy asked her to marry him as they would argue!

Two Tumultuous Decades

This odd couple would test their mettle many times more in full public eye – they went on to survive two tumultuous decades together marked with substance abuse, adultery, cancer, weight issues, near death accidents and even a reality television programme.

Even Heavy-Metal Stars can have Real and Lasting Relationships

Despite their rocky relationship, they are obviously very much still in love today. When Sharon was sick from the cancer treatment, Ozzy slept on a chair by her bed for 18 months. He would carry her to the bathroom to shower her, and would help pick out her fallen hair out of her food.i Their 28-year relationship is concrete proof that even bat-chewing heavy-metal stars can have real and lasting relationships.

Seal and Heidi Klum: Obvious Odds Don’t Mean Anything

This odd couple may seem worlds apart – singer seal is British and supermodel Heidi Klum is German – but their obvious differences do not mean anything to them. Their happy faces of their growing family attest to this.

When this couple first started dating, Heidi told Seal that she was pregnant with another man’s child.ii Seal’s reply was that it didn’t change his feelings for her. Five years married and four children later, they are still exude that newlywed bliss for each other.

If there is one thing that is obvious – this couple works hard at putting each other and their family first. They sing duets together. They hang artsy photos of themselves (in the buff, naturally!) in their bedroomiii. They are generous in their public displays of affection for each other. Plus there’s a reality television programme in the making that would be hosted by them – they want to help couples who didn’t get their dream wedding the first time round a second chance.

Renewing Marriage Vows

Since their marriage in 2005, they have been renewing their marriage vows in different ways with their family and close friends in attendance. One year, they exchanged vows with Heidi in dreadlocks and Seal in a mullet wig. Another year, they wore matching salmon-pink outfits for a bikini-clad, beach-setting celebration. Their yearly tradition is catching on as an inspiration for others.
